Automatic Emulation by Adaptive Relevance Vector Machines
2017
This paper introduces an automatic methodology to construct emulators for costly radiative transfer models (RTMs). The proposed method is sequential and adaptive, and it is based on the notion of the acquisition function by which instead of optimizing the unknown RTM underlying function we propose to achieve accurate approximations. The proposed methodology combines the interpolation capabilities of a modified Relevance Vector Machine (RVM) with the accurate design of an acquisition function that favors sampling in low density regions and flatness of the interpolation function. The proposed Relevance Vector Machine Automatic Emulator (RAE) is illustrated in toy examples and for the construc…
Input-Output Feedback Linearization Control of Linear Induction Motors Including the dynamic End-Effects
2014
This paper proposes the theoretical framework and the consequent application of the input-output feedback linearization (FL) control technique to linear induction motors (LIM). LIM, additionally to RIM, presents other strong non-linearities caused by the dynamic end effects, leading to a space-vector dynamic model with time-varying inductance and resistance terms and a braking force term. This paper, starting from a recently developed dynamic model of the LIM taking into consideration its end effects, defines a FL technique suited for LIMs, since it inherently considers its dynamic end effects. The proposed approach has been validated experimentally on a suitably developed test set-up. Furt…
Unit Vector Fields that are Critical Points of the Volume and of the Energy: Characterization and Examples
2007
In the last few years, many works have appeared containing examples and general results on harmonicity and minimality of vector fields in different geometrical situations. This survey will be devoted to describe many of the known examples, as well as the general results from where they are obtained.
Experimental investigation on high efficiency real-time control algorithms for IPMSMs
2014
This paper describes an experimental investigation on the power losses variations occurring in an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) with respect to the direct axis current component. Such investigation can be useful to determine a mathematical model accounting for copper, iron and mechanical friction losses, and for the arrangement of a speed control drive system equipped with a real-time power losses minimization algorithm. In particular, a test bench has been set up in order to carry out all measurements and the final power loss identification. The test bed is composed by a IPMSM drive with a field oriented control (FOC) strategy, a power analyzer, a dynamometric brake a…
PVDF based vibration measurements and their correlation with torque estimation in a FOC induction motor drive
2008
This paper presents a study concerning the vibrations generated by an induction motor drive controlled by field oriented control algorithm (FOC). The aim of the study is to identify suitable measurement points and analysis techniques in order to achieve information about vibration generated by an electric drive. Vibrations take origin both by the torque generated by the motor and the motor supply through an inverter, then they are transmitted to neighbouring structures. Torque is estimated on the basis of the estimated flux linkage; vibrations have been both measured and analysed numerically by FEM at two points of the cradle. The numerical and experimental analysis have been carried out fo…
Land cover classification of VHR airborne images for citrus grove identification
2011
Abstract Managing land resources using remote sensing techniques is becoming a common practice. However, data analysis procedures should satisfy the high accuracy levels demanded by users (public or private companies and governments) in order to be extensively used. This paper presents a multi-stage classification scheme to update the citrus Geographical Information System (GIS) of the Comunidad Valenciana region (Spain). Spain is the first citrus fruit producer in Europe and the fourth in the world. In particular, citrus fruits represent 67% of the agricultural production in this region, with a total production of 4.24 million tons (campaign 2006–2007). The citrus GIS inventory, created in…
PMSM Drives Sensorless Position Control with Signal Injection and Neural Filtering
2009
Vector Field Oriented Control (FOC) is one of the best control methods for high-dynamic electrical drives. To avoid the adoption of the speed/position sensor (resolver/encoder), a sensorless technique should be used. Among the various sensorless methods in literature, those based on machine saliency detection by signal injection seem to be most useful for thier giving the possibility of closing the position control loop. This paper proposes a method for enhancing both rotating and pulsating voltage carrier injection methods by a neural adaptive band filter. Results show the goodness of the proposed solution.
Sensorless control of PMSM by a linear neural network: TLS EXIN neuron
2010
Sensorless vector control applied to the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs) is a very challenging subject. It permits obtaining high dinamical performance by exploiting increased reliability and also reduced cost. Among the different methodologies proposed in literature, a model based approach has been proposed here. In particular, the space vector equations of the PMSM have been re-elaborated to permit the use of a Least Squares technique. The problem has been then faced-up to with the so-called TLS EXIN neuron, which is a linear neural network able to solve the TLS problem on-line. Simulation tests have been done on both interior mounted and surface mounted machines.
Control of an open-end winding induction machine via a two-output indirect matrix converter
2014
In this paper an Indirect Matrix Converter (IMC) with two output stages feeding an open-end winding induction machine is presented. The IMC has the advantage of having nobulky energy storage elements and with the two output stages up to 1.5 times the input phase voltage can be obtained across the windings of the machine, without overmodulation. A vector control scheme for the machine currents is used along with a modulation strategy for the converter two-output stages to reduce the common mode voltage and compensate the phase zero sequence currents. Simulation results showing the performance of the controlscheme and the reduction of zero sequence and common mode voltages are presented and d…
Method for designing PI-type fuzzy controllers for induction motor drives
2001
The paper illustrates a new systematic method for designing PI-type fuzzy controllers for direct field-oriented controlled induction motor drives. First, linear and decoupled models expressing the dynamics of speed, rotor flux, direct and inquadrature stator currents are derived using a nonlinear static compensator and choosing convenient input variables. Then, to guide the dynamics of the above quantities, four conventional PI controllers are designed independently, choosing their bandwidths conveniently. Finally, the input and output scale factors of PI-type fuzzy controllers are derived from the conventional PI controller parameters. The whole drive controller also includes a rotor flux …
